Swarthmore College Science Center
Opportunity
Located in Swarthmore, PA, this institution sought to create a state-of-the-art science and classroom facility utilizing both existing buildings and new construction. The design provides unique site features such as the teaching wall, protection of the Harry Wood Courtyard Gardens, and coordination with the Scott Arboretum.
Results
The project has a multi-layered stormwater management system which collects water from the site and roofs, conveys the water through visible site features, and processes the water through landscape water quality features and a cistern with a site irrigation system. This LEED Certified project also won the Philadelphia Water Department’s Stormwater Management Best Practices Award.
