MOUNT PLEASANT, MI. – Prism Analytical Technologies (Prism), a consultative air testing company providing a wide range of air testing support, including on-site monitoring and emergency response support, announces the launch of their new in home PFAS Water Screen for Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

In 2017, the State of Michigan launched a new group called the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART). This team has worked diligently to establish clean-up standards for PFAS in groundwater used for drinking water. Hitting close to home for Prism, with a known PFAS contamination site within city limits of Mount Pleasant, MI, developing an easy to use consumer ready product was important.

“Deploying an affordable and easy to use home kit for individuals concerned about their well water was simple through our already in place Home Air Check website. We see the need for well water or non-municipality testing capabilities and want to help those outside of MPART and individual state’s DEQ testing zones” commented Sarah Mack, Business Development Director at Prism.

The PFAS Water Screen found at www.homeaircheck.com aims to measure and report levels of PFOS, PFOA, and PFBS in your water. The single-use water collection kit features gloves, a collection vial, instructions, and pre-paid shipping label for easy return.

An emailed report with your Water Screen results will be provided via email within five business days of receipt of your kit at our laboratory. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establishes the health advisories for PFOA and PFOS, please consult the EPA website for current advisory levels and directions to address any concerns with elevated levels.

The EPA considers PFAS compounds an Emerging Contaminant. PFAS compounds are considered to have a real or potential threat to human health and/or the environment. These compounds have been widely used in a variety of applications such as clothing, carpeting, food packaging, and heat-resistant foam. PFAS are considered exceptionally toxic because of their ability to bioaccumulate and bio-magnify over time. The concentrations of PFAS in the body can increase with time and they can remain in the environment pervading soil, ground water, and air without breaking down quickly.
