Unlocking Opportunities: 2024 EPA Brownfield Grant Awards

On May 20, 2024, the EPA announced 178 communities were selected to receive 181 grant awards totaling $231 million in funding for Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup (MAC) Grant projects. These Grants will be used to assess, cleanup and redevelop underutilized properties while protecting public health and the environment.
There are various funding options available through the EPA’s Brownfields Program that empower communities to assess, cleanup, and redevelop contaminated sites for economic and environmental revitalization.

What has been awarded?
Our Brownfields & Community Revitalization Practice celebrates a 100% success rate assisting communities across six EPA Regions with securing Brownfield Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup Grant funding during the most recent grant competition. In the northeast alone, our team supported $13M of successful grant applications. Additionally, we secured the only successful grants awarded in Alaska, Delaware, and Hawaii and the largest grant awarded in California.
EPA’s New Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grant Program
Montrose is excited to be supporting communities throughout the United States with over $100M of applications for this exciting new grant program. These grants are funding a wide range of pollution reduction and climate resiliency initiatives, including:

- Quality, Affordable & Low-Energy Housing
- Nature-Based Restoration
- Community Resiliency Hubs
These grants will play a crucial role in advancing environmental justice by providing resources and opportunities for historically marginalized communities to address environmental challenges and create healthier, more vibrant neighborhoods.

Andrea is a distinguished Principal Environmental Professional and Brownfield and Community Revitalization Specialist with over 18 years of experience. Throughout her career, she has successfully assisted with over 50 EPA Brownfield Grant applications, securing over $72 million for communities across Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, California, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, New York, and Vermont. Andrea thrives in diverse roles and responsibilities, including project and grant management, grant writing, business development, and program coordination. Andrea has cultivated strong relationships with repeat clients who trust her expertise in securing and effectively utilizing various federal, state, and local funding resources. Her work is instrumental in helping these communities build programs and achieve their restoration and revitalization goals. In addition to her prowess in grant management, Andrea delivers a wide array of technical services related to brownfield assessment and cleanup projects. She excels in developing work plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, and Sampling and Analysis Plans. Andrea also oversees grant management and compliance reporting, community engagement, site inventory and prioritization, Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, cleanup and reuse planning, and area-wide planning activities.
