Power Generation Industry Services
Go beyond traditional Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems with a program designed to capture more contaminants, reduce losses, and achieve a fuller picture of your fugitive emissions using just one instrument.
It’s the best way to protect the environment — and your bottom line.
How It Works
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is an analytical technique that has been applied to source monitoring.
Extractive FTIR monitoring removes gas from the stack or duct, filters out particulate matter, and transports the gas through a sample line to a remote location for continuous, real time analysis by an FTIR spectrometer.
This multi-component, real time measurement is a trusted technique for gaseous hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from stationary sources, and non-organic volatile compounds.
The FTIR can potentially identify and quantify any gas that absorbs infrared light, and the system can measure more than hundreds of HAPs.
Applications
FTIR can be used in a variety of industries, from power to automotive, chemical to pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and more.
- Process trials
- Process optimization
- Control equipment efficiency testing
- Source screening
- Compliance assurance monitoring
- Emission factor development
- Supporting emission inventories (NPRI / GHG)
- US EPA Methods 318, 320, and 321
- ASTM D6348
Detection Limits
FTIR’s wide measurement range makes it flexible as both an effective process tool and environmental monitoring system.
Typical detection limits are sub 1 PPB when measuring Ethylene Oxide, with different ranges for various compounds of interest.
The same instrument can be used to accurately measure gases in the percent range.
