Montrose Announces First Installation of TreaTech’s Circular Waste Treatment Unit

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. & LONAY, Switzerland, Aug. 20, 2024 – Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. (NYSE: MEG), a global leader in environmental solutions, is proud to announce that TreaTech, a Montrose-supported waste treatment technology company, has successfully installed its first circular waste treatment unit, named VISTA, at Ecorecyclage’s site in Lavigny, Switzerland.

TreaTech has developed a groundbreaking technology that employs catalytic hydrothermal gasification to convert a diverse array of waste streams into reusable resources, such as methane-rich renewable gas, in a circular and cost-efficient way. The newly installed VISTA unit will process various industrial, agricultural, and municipal waste streams, transforming them into renewable gas, which will be directly injected into the natural gas distribution network of Holdigaz Group, the parent company of Ecorecyclage. Holdigaz is a significant player in the Swiss energy and construction sectors. The VISTA unit is designed to handle up to 200kg of waste per hour, operating 24/7, and marks a major milestone in demonstrating TreaTech’s capability to continuously treat organic waste at an industrial scale.

Vijay Manthripragada, President & CEO of Montrose Environmental Group and a member of TreaTech’s Board, expressed his enthusiasm: “The progress by the TreaTech team has been remarkable. Montrose is dedicated to helping communities convert waste into valuable resources, and we believe that TreaTech’s technology is among the most innovative in this field. Our goal is to ensure that no waste is wasted, furthering energy access and community development in a sustainable manner. We are thrilled about the deepening partnership between TreaTech and Holdigaz, and as TreaTech’s technology continues to prove its effectiveness, we see immense potential to support global communities in waste reuse initiatives.”

As the world faces increasing pressure on waste disposal systems due to population growth and economic expansion, the demand for sustainable waste-to-energy solutions that maximize resource recovery has never been more critical. Many countries are seeking to achieve energy independence by investing in innovative waste treatment technologies like those offered by TreaTech, which provide an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional incineration methods that emit significant CO2 and fail to recover water.

Jacob Stern, Vice President of Renewable Natural Gas at Montrose Environmental Group, commented: “Historically, renewable energy has been restricted to specific feedstocks. TreaTech’s technology presents a solution to recover energy from feedstocks that cannot be processed through traditional anaerobic digestion.”

Looking ahead, Montrose plans to introduce TreaTech’s technology to the U.S. market in 2025, targeting waste streams from the food and beverage industry, agriculture, livestock, municipal waste, and chemical sectors.
