This digester was built alongside an existing composting facility operated from a London-based company. The facility was designed to process food waste from the local city council and waste from local restaurants. The gas produced is used to power a CHP setup to send electrical power into the grid. The separated effluent is collected by local farmers and land applied. The full process included a de-packaging unit up front, a feeding tank, a primary and secondary digester, a pasteurization system for the digestate, a screw press to remove as many solids as possible for composting within the existing compost plant, and a large holding tank for the effluent.
